About us
Pittsburg High School Theatre provides an unparalleled opportunity for students Grades 9-12 to have meaningful, hands-on learning experiences both on stage and off.
Numerous studies show a direct correlation between theatre involvement and academic achievement. In addition to having higher standardized test scores than their peers who do not experience the arts, students who participate in theatre show improved reading comprehension, maintain better attendance records, and stay more engaged in school than their non-arts counterparts. Schools with arts-integrated programs, even in low-income areas, report high academic achievement.
Studies also show most performing arts students go on to become active in performing arts in college and as adults, furthering their quality of life and contributing to the quality of life of those in their communities. The arts also have a significant impact on economic development.
At PHS, we have the added bonus of a strong partnership with other PHS performing arts programs, including vocal music, instrumental music, and forensics, to the benefit of us all. We also are fortunate to have the support of our community, where recent years have seen a revitalization of the arts — from downtown to Pittsburg State University.
We're gaining a reputation for producing high-energy, high-quality theatrical productions, and our students and audiences are reaping the benefits. We hope you'll join us soon and see for yourself!
