Welcome. This is a blog page we never thought we'd have to create, but now we realize we need to. On Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016, Pittsburg High School Senior Derek Brumbaugh was killed in a car wreck on his way home from seeing the musical "Newsies" in Kansas City with PHS Junior Aspen Lloyd. Both were active in our theatre program and had just wrapped production of our all-school musical, "Shrek," the Sunday before. Aspen, thankfully, survived with injuries that someday will heal.
To help in the healing process over the loss of Derek, and to provide a central location for remembrances, we invite anyone who knew Derek or were touched by him in some way to share memories of your time together, photos or video clips from daily life or performances, or something funny or cool or important you remember him saying. Email them to us at dragondramaclub@gmail.com and we will then post them here. We borrowed the title for our blog, by the way, from "Shrek," in which Derek, as the Fairytale Kingdom's beloved Pinocchio, leads them all in singing "Story of My Life." In the beginning, please be patient with us as there is one student and one parent volunteer working to maintain this site and we likely will be flooded. It may take a day or so for what you send to appear. It's our hope that, when they are ready, Derek's family and Aspen and her family, as well as Derek's many friends, can look through this to find comfort in knowing how many lives he touched.

I didn't know Derek and I cannot explaine why I feel so sad about this my heart is so sad and I feel so sorry for his poor mother and dad I have been praying for them since I heard about this 3/4/2016 07:44:11 pm
I personally did not know Derek, I knew his mother from taking my own children to Via Christi's ER & She was Always so sweet, she always put a smile on there face even when they were so ill, & from everything I have been reading I no her beloved Son was just as sweet as she is. And as a mother hearing about something so Tragic, really hit's any mothers heart or parent, I don't think any parent could imagine the pain Derek's family is going threw, since I learned about this accident it has really impacted my thoughts, & feelings as a mother, I have two teenagers who are driving, & I've always said a parents worst fear is getting a phone call about there child being in a car accident. And just a week in a half before this tragic wreck, us parents here in Arma,ks were impacted by a beautiful young lady who lost her life in a car accident, who was friends with my children, it impacts everyone, everywhere. I no I don't have any pictures or anything like that to post on here but I do have a Mother's love from one parent to another I send all my love and prayers for this family, & to Aspin I will Icontinue to Pray for each of you. There are not many words I can say because nothing I say can take your pain away, or bring back your baby, but I do want you to know there are so many out here who would love to be able to wrap our arms around you all and hold you tight. All My Love Courtney. Comments are closed.
